Blue Box is Carbon Neutral!

We all have a “carbon footprint”: from the carbon dioxide we release when we drive, flick on the light switch, or hop in a plane. The executive team at Blue Box Group believes in providing more incentives for renewable energy and taking responsibility for the environmental impacts that our business creates. As a result, we have gone carbon neutral as a company and are purchasing AMD Opteron processor-based servers to decrease the energy demand of our units.

Blue Box has partnered with TerraPass, a company that purchases carbon credits on both the Chicago Climate Exchange and from biomass and wind farms. These credits directly support clean energy projects and to date TerraPass has reduced over 150 million pounds of CO2 pollution. Blue Box is proud to be a supporter of the TerraPass model. CEO Jesse Proudman explained, “The IT industry is an immense consumer of energy. From powering our servers to cooling down our data center environment, this industry uses an unusually high amount of electricity every day. That’s 24/7, every day of the year. Our partnership with TerraPass allows us to continue to run our operation while knowing that the power we’re using isn’t coming from oil.”

With this transition, Blue Box has not only been able to reduce our footprint and decrease our contribution to global warming, we have also become the very first rails hosting business to neutralize their server carbon output.

We will continue to be a leader in the rails hosting market and in environmental responsibility. In addition to carbon credits, Blue Box is working with vendors to install AMD Opteron processor-based servers, an aspect that will make the largest affect on the energy consumption at our data centers.
