Blue Box Data Center Specifications

Network

Our network is carrier neutral, fully meshed, and can sustain bursts upwards of 1Gbps. Blue Box Group, LLC operates under its own ARIN assigned IP space and has its own ASN (AS19073). Bandwidth is provided through fiber from three diverse carriers. Our internal network is fully Cisco switched and customers can elect to install firewall rules on our border firewalls, or can purchase their own firewalling equipment for additional security. Each server is connected to the network via a 100Mb switch port. Gigabit port upgrades are available.

Power

Our facility has full generator and UPS backup power supplied by a dedicated Seattle City Light substation. Our power is fed from two MGE UPS units, each with redundant battery cabinets. Those UPS units are backed by a 1.25MW Communins Diesel generator coupled with an Onan transfer switch allowing fail over to generator within 10 seconds. A 5000 gallon tank provides enough fuel to run on just the generator for 5 days without refueling.

Environmental Controls

Our facility has over 288 tons of redundant cooling capacity which keep the operational temperatures at “finger-numbing temperatures”. The facility can loose multiple chillers and still be able to efficiently manage temperatures. Our facility is operated in a traditional hot isle / cold isle configuration preventing dangerous backwash exhaust from affecting inlet temps on servers.

Physical Security

Our facility is staffed 24×7 and is located a number of stories up behind multiple key card based access systems. Our individual cages are key based or biometrically accessed. Security cameras record the multiple points in the facility providing a historical audit trail of entry.

Fire Suppression

One of the most important questions you should ask your facility is about their fire suppression systems. Water based sprinklers can severely damage equipment while gas based systems provide a much better survival rate for equipment. Our facility uses FM-200/ECARO-25 gas based fire suppression that is zone based and allows the suppression of fires in the facility without the damaging use of water based sprinklers. Dry chemical extinguishers are located throughout the facility for human intervention pre-action on the gas suppression systems.
